Cherry MX1A Butter Browns

Please read: [June 24 2026] This is likely the final batch of butter browns. MX1A variants of Cherry Brown switches have been out of production for over a year, and are becoming increasingly harder to source. MX2A Browns are are reportedly made in China, and our internal testing has found they do not break in well, likely due to tooling changes in the new factory. This only affects MX2A Browns, all other MX2A switches break in nicely.
These are the RNDKBD original Cherry MX Butter Browns. They are 5-pin MX Brown MX1A-G1NW that have been mechanically actuated 640,000+ times to 'break in' the switch and increase the smoothness. The POM sliding on the nylon simulates years of use, creating a smoother feel just like the vintage switches we all desire - without the dust, desoldering, ultrasonic cleaning, spring swapping, and thrift shopping.
Note that other stores may sell broken in MX Browns as "Butter Browns". They have no affiliation with RNDKBD and are simply piggy-backing on the name.
Lubing Recommendation
205g0 or 3203 - both work just fine for these. These tactiles benefit shine with a light coat of lube Give the whole stem (not the legs though!) a nice light coat, and that's it. I also recommend a spring swap and oiling, as the stock springs are rather crunchy and overall not so good. 58g or 60g Supreme are as close to stock as you'll get.
To top it off, some thick films prevent any housing wobble in Cherry switches.
My personal TGR Jane V2 CE build uses 205g0 lubed Butter Browns with films and 60g Supreme springs.
Device Information
I custom designed the machinery for this, and as a mechanical engineer you have my word that these switches are being broken in on precision machines, and not some silly "rock taped to a fan" device. This helps keep the stresses on the leaves to a minimum, as the pressing is no harsher than your fingers. The machine also introduces extremely slight oblique presses, as we never have perfectly centered and straight down presses when we type. This helps to wear the switches evenly and effectively.
